pure and self-sacrificing, and
the people gathered together were
perfectly pure of heart,
as pure as pure can be.

“Jasper” is primarily a picture of purity. For the protection being described to be pure and free of imperfections, like jasper, it often requires that one puts himself in harm’s way in order to protect others. God’s protection of us has been self-sacrificing; it has cost Him dearly.
