Then I saw another angel flying in mid heaven,

and in every ethnicity

and tribe and language and people,

Paraphrase

Then I saw another angel flying at the highest point of the arch of the sky above me where it could be seen by everyone,

having with him the everlasting glad tidings to share with everyone on earth, with no one left out,

every ethnic group,

every bloodline, every language group,

and every cultural group,

The Greek says, “flying in mid-heaven,” but the meaning is “the highest part of the heavens.” It is the point at which the sun reaches the highest point of its arch and can be seen by everyone in that part of the world.

2: “the glad tidings to share”

Here the Greek has a play on words by using two forms of the same word. It says “having the eternal good news to be newsed to those dwelling on the earth.” The “glad tidings, or the good news,” are to be shared or “newsed” far and wide because good news is for sharing. The word for “Good News,” is the Greek word from which we get the English words evangelize, evangelism, etc.
