Footnotes
1: “Water like a river”
In Scripture there is a difference between a stream of water and a river of water. Often the imagery of a river was intended to communicate a very large amount of something; what that something was had to be supplied by the context. In this case we know the river represents great volumes of verbal attacks because we are told it came from Satan’s mouth, i.e. his words, and Satan continually lies, accuses and deceives. The only thing new about his activity in this case is that he has greatly increased the output of it.
