1: “his own city”

The word used here is the word for “city,” in fact it is the word “polis” from which we get “metropolitan.” However, it did not have to be a walled city; it could also refer to a town. People had homes there and they went out from the town to work their fields, much like they would from a city, just without the protection of a city wall.
