Luke2:21

Translation

Now when the eight days were fulfilled for His circumcision,

then His name was called JESUS, which is what He was called by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Paraphrase

Now when the eight days were fulfilled that were required before His circumcision could be done, at that time He was formally given the name THE ETERNAL AND PERSONAL GOD SAVES, which is exactly what the angel had called Him before He was conceived in the womb.

1: “before he was conceived in the womb”

Usually a name was not given to a child until after it was born so that the parents could take into consideration the situation into which the child was born. But Jesus was called by that name before he was even conceived, an act and a name which reflected, not what was going on from a human perspective, but God’s purpose.
