And he said, “Who told you that you were naked?

Jesus said, “How did you learn that being naked was something to be ashamed of? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you should not eat from?

The problem was not that they were suddenly naked; they had been in their natural state from the beginning. The problem was that now being naked brought shame, whereas before it had not. Prior to this moment, if one of them had put clothes on it would have been laughable. So, in our way of thinking, the question God (Jesus) was asking seems better expressed as a “how” question than a “who” question. He may have asked it this way in order to highlight the fact that this realization, this new perspective, was not included in what the Creator had placed within them originally, rather it was something they had been “informed” of by some other means.
