1 Corinthians7:7

Previous Verse Next Verse

Translation

But I wish all men to be even like myself. However, each one has his own gift from THEOS; indeed one has this [gift] but another has that [gift].

Paraphrase

In reality I wish that all men could have the same gift that I have, i.e. the ability to suppress sexual desires. But I have to admit that each one has his own set of strength which are a gift from THE CREATOR AND OWNER OF ALL THINGS. One person was given one set of strengths and another person was given another set of strengths.

REFRAINING FROM SEXUAL DESIRES

It is appears from I Cor 9:5 that Paul was not married. But he is not wishing for all men to be single, for that would go against one of the original institutions of God, rather he wishes that all men could refrain from sexual desires to the degree that he could. But that gift has not be given to every follower of Jesus in equal measure.
