Troublesome Topic: The Method of Formation Shows the Intended Purpose 1 Cor 11
Lesson 6 of 261 Corinthians 11:8
Translation
For man is not out of woman, but woman [is] out of man.
Paraphrase
One reason for this is that the first man did not come from or come out of the first woman, but rather the first woman came out of the first man.
1 Corinthians 11:9
Translation

(the same as the translation – For indeed, man was not created through and for the woman, but the woman was created through and for the man.)
THE METHOD OF FORMATION SHOWS THE INTENDED PURPOSE
The man was not created and designed to be the woman’s support and helper, it was the other way around. There must be a leader and there must be a helper; the purpose of each one is evident in how each one was formed.

Footnotes
1
This is the preposition “dia” from which we get English words that start with “dia, such as “diameter,” “diagram, etc. Its original meaning is “across to the other side.” The question in this case is whether the emphasis is on how to get across to the other side (how the woman was taken out of man), or on the purpose for which one wants to go “across to the other side” (the purpose for which she was taken out of the man). Both fit the context and both were understood by the people of that day, so include both of them in my translation and paraphrase.

The words inside [ ] are not in the Greek text.
