Troublesome Topic: Learning to Manage
As managers God lets us decide many things. He does not micro-manage His managers. He placed us here on earth to govern it, to administer it; that means He wants us to make good things happen in the part of the world He has placed us in. He allows us to make mistakes and learn from our mistakes.
But one would think that when we go to our “Boss” with questions about how to best manage His creation, He would give us specific direction.
The reality is more vague than that. God wants us to learn what is best, not be given the answer. There are ways in which He does indeed treat us as a manager, not as an entry-level employee. If He gave us answers every time we asked a question we would not learn how to make decisions in the future, we would just ask more questions. God is more interested in us “growing up” than in making life easy for us. By allowing us to learn the hard way we will learn how to make wise decisions for the future.
Think of a godly person you know who has obviously walked with the Lord for many, many years. This person seems to easily sense God’s will. This person seems to be in such close contact with God and has a spiritual confidence that others don’t have. That kind of confidence and closeness are not gained from getting quick answers; they are learned in the crucible of life’s challenges. They have gained that confidence through making many decisions in the past, some with positive consequences and some with negative. Such confidence comes from taking risks and getting “burned” by our own decisions. Confidence comes from many years of managing what God has loaned you.
