Paraphrase
Men and animals go to the same place; both were formed from the dust and both will return to dust.
Footnotes

Did you ever notice that Genesis says the animals were also formed from the dust? Check out Gen 2:19. In Genesis chapter 1 it says God spoke them into being, but in chapter 2 it says He formed them from the dust. Which is it? Can both be correct? Yes, both can be true at the same time. In the Jewish mind saying that God spoke, saying “Let there be,” means that he created something that is an expression of what He is deep down inside. He took what was within Him and brought it out for us to see so we could learn about His character. Forming them from the dust could have been part of that revealing of His inner self.
