Genesis4:17

Translation

CAIN was building a fortified place,

and he called the name of the fortified place according to [the name of] his son, ENOCH.

Paraphrase

ACQUIRED [FROM GOD] started right away to prepare a fortified place, and he decided to give his fortified place the same name as his first surviving son, WELL TRAINED.

The word I render as “a fortified place” is the word that is often rendered “a city,” but “a fortified place” is it most basic meaning.
