and the stars of the heavens
Go to footnote numberfell to the earth, just as, when shaken by a great wind,
the fig tree casts off its unripe figs.
Paraphrase
Faced with His power, the supposed deities come crashing down; when tested severely by God’s Spirit, they fall easily, proving that they are not able to provide sustenance or healing and they are unfit for anything.

Stars can mean several things: first they are demonstrations of God’s power and glory; if one focuses on the number of stars it is an uncountable number; focusing on their twinkling brightness should cause one to give glory to God, however, that same quality has caused men to refer to other people who stand out from the crowd as stars. We use the term that way today also. And some, refusing to give glory to God, turned the stars into deities. I believe “supposed deities” fits this context the best.
